Welcome to the section of our website dealing renewable energy.

During recent years, due to rapid economic growth linked to foreign direct investment and an increase in tourism activities domestic energy demand has grown rapidly. Our consumption in electricity alone reflects this general trend in the increase of energy demand and use. Consumption of electricity by the public has constantly increased in the country at an annual average growth rate of 4.5% during the period 2000-2010. In 2010, the national consumption of electricity was 271.6 GWh, of which 260.2 GWh was consumed by consumers and the rest by power generators. Similarly, the annual average increase for various petroleum fuels over the 10-year period from 2001 to 2010 was 3.8%.

These figures highlight our dependence on imported fossil fuel and the need for us to diversify and improve energy security thereby significantly reduce our fuel import burden from the current net actual figure of 7.4%. The operationalization of the wind farm and current investments in renewable energy are key to meeting this important objective.
